Iona recently completed her second run at the Edinburgh Fringe with the show Tickety-Boo, which received strong reviews and multiple sold-out performances. The success of the production strengthened her commitment to building a directing career in Scotland. Her interest in ethics within theatre is rooted in an undergraduate degree in theology, shaping a belief that audiences should leave the theatre both entertained and encouraged to reflect honestly. This outlook fuels her long-term aspiration to become an Artistic Director capable of creating work that inspires that kind of response.

Her experience spans a wide range of roles across education and professional settings. She has worked both independently and as part of collaborative teams, including two assistant director positions where she gained hands-on experience with administration, script analysis, scheduling, research and running rehearsal rooms. These opportunities helped develop strong people-management skills, allowing her to support actors in pushing their creativity and achieving their best work. Clear and motivating communication sits at the center of her directing practice, shaping rehearsal environments where collaboration can thrive.

She has also worked as a personal assistant to a senior Pastor and CEO, managing day-to-day organisation and helping develop practical, budget-conscious plans. This experience strengthened her awareness of financial constraints within the arts and built the resilience needed to bring creative ideas to life in realistic ways. Understanding a director’s intent and serving both cast and creative leadership has become a core part of her approach, preparing her well for future roles within major Scottish theatre institutions.
